A diagnostic OPG (Orthopantomagram) is a dental X-ray of the upper and lower jaw scanning panoramic aspects. The OPG image shows a two-dimensional flat view of a half-circle image from ear to ear. Panoramic x-rays can take images from multiple angles then make it a composite panoramic image, where the upper jaw and lower jaw are in the focused area. The structures outside the focused, viewed area are blurred for a clearer perception.
Your dental doctor may ask for an OPG at some point in your treatment. An OPG x-ray demonstrates all the teeth’ position, number, and growth, including unerupted teeth from the gum. The advantages of OPG x rays include:
A broad view of facial bones and teeth, including the jaw joint
Low radiation dose to the patient
Relatively convenient for examination
It can be used in patients who feel restricted in opening their mouth
Takes less time for producing the image
Our dental x-ray experts will guide you in each step and make you feel a comfortable environment while taking x rays. The OPG x-ray usually takes about 3 minutes to be done.
